EnviroSim Associates announces the release of BioWin 4.0 with capabilities to model nitrous oxide, methane and carbon dioxide emissions – key greenhouse gases (GHGs) produced in wastewater treatment plants. Building on the successful history of the BioWin line, BioWin 4.0 continues to provide rigorous mathematical models to simulate operations in wastewater treatment plants, now with increased computational speed and new elements such as trickling filters.
The new release has been the result of extensive efforts by EnviroSim to further research and experimentally validate nitrification and denitrification processes critical in wastewater treatment. The new mathematical models better approximate plant performance and now also track key intermediates.
“The field of research into nitrous oxide emissions from treatment plants is expanding rapidly. EnviroSim is pleased to provide a tool that will further the understanding of this critical topic.” said Peter Dold, President of EnviroSim.
Greenhouse gas emissions have become an important topic in wastewater treatment as more and more plants are considering their carbon footprints and striving to become carbon and energy neutral. Nitrous oxide is of particular interest because it has a Global Warming Potential 300 times greater than carbon dioxide and a 120 year lifespan in the atmosphere.
With its new capabilities, BioWin 4.0 allows plant designers, water companies and plant operators to calculate and predict GHG emissions from different plant designs and operating conditions.
We have also prepared a “New Developments in BioWin” document for BioWin 4.0 in PDF format. These will help to get you started in BioWin 4.0; more comprehensive information is provided in the user manual.
- The upgrade to 4.0 will not affect older BioWin versions (BioWin 3.1 and earlier) which are separate applications. This means that users can keep their older copies of BioWin.
- BioWin Updater will not automatically upgrade BioWin 3.1 to BioWin 4.0. You MUST run the full installation from the link provided. Thereafter the BioWin Updater will always be checking that your files are up to date.
- We are emailing you as the registered contact for your BioWin serial number(s). If your organization has multiple copies or users of BioWin, we would be pleased if you could advise them of this new version and these upgrade instructions.
Lease Customers Lease customers can now upgrade to BioWin 4.0; releases and upgrades are included in the annual lease and distributed electronically. Instructions on how to electronically upgrade to BioWin 4.0 can be found here.
Purchase Customers Purchase customers who purchased after May 31st, 2012 will be emailed instructions on how to electronically upgrade to BioWin 4.0 free of charge. If you have not received your upgrade email, please contact us. Customers who purchased BioWin prior to May 31st, 2012 may order an upgrade here.
Academic Licenses Academic Licenses can now be upgraded to BioWin 4.0; releases and upgrades are included in the annually renewed license and distributed electronically. Instructions on how to electronically upgrade to BioWin 4.0 can be found here.
Enjoy your new BioWin 4.0 and good modeling.
