INSTALL BIOWIN ON YOUR COMPUTER

It is VERY IMPORTANT to install the latest version of BioWin correctly. You must have ADMINISTRATIVE RIGHTS for your laptop when you install BioWin. If you are uncertain, contact your IT department to assist with the installation.


  1. Download and install the latest version of BioWin here : envirosim.com/getbw
  2. Plug in your USB dongle
    • NOTE : If you do not have a BioWin dongle, please follow the "If You Don't Have Your Own BioWin Dongle" instructions below
  3. Start BioWin

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE YOUR OWN BIOWIN USB DONGLE

Configure the environment variables according to which version of Windows you are running, from the three following options :


Configuring Windows NT/2000/XP

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double click System.
  3. On the Advanced tab, click Environment variables.
  4. Click New under “System Variables” (“User Variables” is also acceptable for that particular user)
  5. Type in the following:
  6. In the “Variable name” field: HLS_IPADDR
  7. In the “Variable value” field: 38.69.156.156
  8. Accept OK from all open dialog boxes.

Configuring Windows Vista/7

  1. Open the Start menu, right click on Computer and click Properties. Alternatively, in Windows Explorer, right click on Computer and click Properties.
  2. Click Advanced System Settings.
  3. Click Environment variables.
  4. Click New under “System Variables” (“User Variables” is also acceptable for that particular user)
  5. Type in the following:
  6. In the “Variable name” field: HLS_IPADDR
  7. In the “Variable value” field: 38.69.156.156
  8. Accept OK from all open dialog boxes.

Configuring Windows 8

  1. Move the mouse to the upper-right corner of the desktop and click on Settings and then PC info.
  2. Click Advanced System Settings.
  3. Click Environment variables.
  4. Click New under “System Variables” (“User Variables” is also acceptable for that particular user)
  5. Type in the following:
  6. In the “Variable name” field: HLS_IPADDR
  7. In the “Variable value” field: 38.69.156.156
  8. Accept OK from all open dialog boxes.

Configuring Windows 10

  1. In the Windows search bar (next to the Window home button) type in "environment".
  2. In the search results click on "Edit the system environment variables".
  3. Click Environment variables.
  4. Click New under “System Variables” (“User Variables” is also acceptable for that particular user)
  5. Type in the following:
    • In the “Variable name” field: HLS_IPADDR
    • In the “Variable value” field: 38.69.156.156
  6. Accept OK from all open dialog boxes.

THEN

  1. Start BioWin
  2. Enter BioWin codes :
    • BioWin : 218D-A51A-AE85-6394-9999
    • BW Controller : 292C-2B46-C7DB-84A7-9999 
    • NOTE : If your codes don't work, please follow the "If Your Codes Don't Work" instructions below
  3. Run BioWin

IF YOUR CODES DON'T WORK

If your computer is asking for the wrong number of characters when you try to input the code, this likely means that your BioWin 6 installation is looking for a different style of dongle. The solution to this is as follows :


  1. Click start menu, type regedit, return, then navigate to :
  2. HKEY_CURRENT_USER  | Software | Envirosim | BioWin | 6.0 | common and change the number in the SPFirst file from “1” to “0”.
  3. If it does not exist, create a new String value and name it SPFirst with a value of 0.
  4. Then replace the dongle, restart BioWin and you should be able to enter the shorter code.
